Today I’m going to cover how to go about getting rid of man boobs. I’m going to tell you what causes them and then I’m going to tell you about the different ways to get rid of them.
Man boobs, or gynecomastia, can be caused by two different things: 1) You’re a teenager and you have a hormone imbalance (your body is producing either too much testosterone or not enough estrogen), or 2) Your bodyfat percentage is high enough such that your body is storing the excess fat in your breasts. If you believe you have a hormone imbalance and that diet / exercise won’t help you, then I highly encourage you to go to the link at the bottom of this article for a program specifically designed to address that.
Step 1: Diet
First you have to make sure that you’re burning more calories than you’re consuming each day, and one of the ways we’re going to go about doing that is diet. You can pick any diet you want, they all work the same way: they cut your caloric intake. You could choose the French / Mediterranean Diet (my favorite), The Zone, South Beach, Atkins, Sugar Busters, etc.
If you want some quick tips, I’d say cut down on your portion sizes, eat more often (5-6 times per day instead of just 3–it raises your metabolic rate), and stay away from simple carbohydrates like white flour and sugars (no soft drinks!).
Step 2: Strength Training
Go to the gym, get a book or personal trainer to help you pick which exercises you’re going to do, and then DO IT. I would recommend strength training 2-3 times per week and not on the same day that you do aerobic exercise.
Step 3: Aerobic Exercise
This is specifically for burning calories, although it has a side benefit of significantly improving your cardiovascular system and overall health. The nice thing about it is there’s so many different ways to do it: running, swimming, tennis, basketball, tread mills, elliptical machines, cycling, spinning machines, etc. Just pick one and then make sure you actually DO IT–I would recommend working up to 3 times per week.
